A very surreal moment
I've not mentioned this before. When I first located the Mecatecno factory in Barcelona I stood outside and took some photos and got a good sense and feel for the place. Just across the parking area from the factory was a small cafe. Not wanting to leave so soon I wandered into this workers cafe. It was and still is a very small dingy, smoke veiled dated room with yellow nicotine stained walls and ceiling. The white gloss ceilings and walls turned yellow years ago. It was probably much the same as when the Mecatecno factory was running opposite. I ordered a coffee and looked around. Behind me a poster on the wall caught my eye. The poster just summed up everything perfectly to me. This wonderful time in trials comes with heart ache as well. The closure of these factories was the end of the dream for these men. Behind me on the wall was this poster. It was perfect for the moment and really meant something. The poster just sums up perfectly the love that Jordi Rabasa had for his company, Mecatecno. The poster summed up the huge disappointment that he would have felt when it died.
This poster was just right for the moment. As well as the competition and the Trial Superstars some areas of this web are about the men and women who put their heart and soul into making trial motorcycles , and for one reason or another ,one day ,had to stop .
But they left a legacy , something to be enjoyed. Often these smaller companies played the most daring set of cards with wild designs and custom engines . Thank God for them. If it wasn't for all of these brave men and women , we'd all be mounted on the same machines and the World of trial would not enjoy the great spectrum of machines we now enjoy.
