Born in 1964 Gabino Renales was one of the most successful riders of the 1980's.
He started his professional career in motorcycling riding for Merlin in 1982.During the World Championship of 1982 he finished 23rd.He rode Merlins first model the DG350 twinshock model again in 1983 improving his World ranking to 16th.
In 1984 Renales changed manufacturers and rode for JJ Cobos the successful moto GP company from Catalonia who had developed an unusual Trials motorcycle of which only 5 were built.Although technically advanced the machine was heavy and to complicated to manufacture at a reasonable price. 25th in the world rankings was disappointing.
In 1985 the small Barcelona based manufacturer Mecatecno provided Renales with a ride on the new MR326 , which was a brand new machine with Mecatecno's own engine. Renales rode 6 rounds and finished 25th at year end.
In 1986 the newly formed GasGas offered him a deal and Renales agreed on the new machine the 350cc Halley.
1986 14th placing
1987 Gabino secured a career Year end best at 10th . This included a first place at Belgium and a 3rd at the Spanish World round.
In 1988 Gabino left GasGas and joined Montesa where he stayed for 3 years. Although he had some excellent results he never managed to repeat his earlier successes.
