Let me tell you, we adjust a group of small things that make the bike not just go well, but to be the best and for the customer to be satisfied.

RT: Which idea have you had that’s not been put into production and you feel that it should.

P: Well, I should say that more or less everything has been put into production, but maybe the one that has drifted further than what I had designed was the 2010 generation. I thought about a bike with a petrol tank under the seat and the pet cock behind the seat. The air filter was at the front where traditionally the petrol tank goes, around the fake petrol tank there was a decorative plastic so it was easy to maintain the appearance of the bike by just changing the plastic. For commercial design purposes the petrol tank was finally placed on the left side of the bike so it would be symmetrical with the silencer.

Whilst CAD design and computer technology has taken engineering to the next level , this is not enough in the World of Trial machine development . Designers and engineers still need to translate rider feedback to design change. Trials motorcycles need to feel correct and balanced and perform at the top of their game .Today a master degree in engineering will not provide you with this feel , this experience . This is one reason why , despite traditional and perhaps old fashioned skills , Josep Paxau , Pere and his workshop remain highly relevant in Trial sport .

With this short interview, we have managed to know Josep Rovira Paxau in a different manor from normal interviews, focusing from the start of his career. We have met a man that has dedicated his life to the trials world, always going one step ahead of the competition, leaving his footprint behind forever. It is only left for us to thank him for the time he has dedicated to us, for me it has been a pleasure to listen to the MASTER of trials for everything he has explained and shown us.

Thank you very much Josep!!!!

- and thank you also to Josep Argerich for completing this interview for Retrotrials.com

Would you like to have a tour around the place where all of the magic happened . Josep Paxau's Torello workshop. The place that has had more influence on Trials machine design than any other. By coincidence they were servicing Albert Cabestany's Sherco when I visited. Happy days .
