Why did Paco leave the company before 1981 and go early ?.

He was ill .I was not in the board of directors ,but from what I heard  the board decided that it would disappear as a board and  Mr Chalamanch would be the only empowered person left in the company. Mr Chalamanch wanted to take this responsibility to try and go ahead with the company. Also because Paco in himself was in bad physical condition because he had a heart attack long before. In fact his heart had stopped for four minutes with the doctors and nurses working on him with incredible attention. Ignacio Bulto explain to me that he was there at the hospital with Paco his father near Villanova . After much work on Paco the doctor's came out to explain to him that they had tried and at that time 4 minutes have passed and heart had stopped completely and now there was no possibility to revive.
For me this is a wonderful photo. It shows the strong relationship between Oriol and Paco. Secondly it shows how Paco courted people and gained their fellowship. The theme of Paco gaining peoples confidence carries through many of the interviews on this website and is clearly one of his strongest assets. This is of course the main reason how the company was formed and partly the reason why there are so many Bultaco followers today.  Innes Bulto (Paco's daughter) has the scarf on her head.

So they kept pushing and all of a sudden in a moment they said he is pumping again so he recovered . He was told that he had to take a very easy life.

Do you think the condition that Paco suffered might have been contributed to , by the extreme problems that bultaco suffered ?.

Well I suppose yes , but there are many people who suffer a heart attack.

And you yourself had many Successful years  riding in competition and you rode the ISDE many times.

Yes yes , i am very proud of this.

The Auto-Cycle Union who are very kind putting In their supplementary regulations  that's only trials tyres are permitted at this time there were not special Enduro tyres and we used motocross tyres. This mixture of mud and grass in the Isle of Man with trials tyres caused  the trials tyres to be completely blocked and everywhere the course was very very slippery.

We had very bad weather at this event and  I remember that out of 300 starters only 81 or 82 riders finished. This was very few. Normally retirement so at 30% . I think it is around this figure but today maybe less . I'm a little bit disappointed , because when I go to watch the ISDE they have tents and they bring the bike there for service, and they have special tyre equipment and small tyre frames to greatly assist with the changing . In my time we could only work with the tools that we carried. For changing tyres we could have only the small leavers ,not the frames that are used today. And during the duration of the event we could only use spares that we carried cables clutch and brake cables. There is much more assistance today.
