Visit the home , motorcycle collection and vineyard of Montesa Boss Oscar Giro
Oscar Giro is the boss of the manager of the competition department of Honda Montesa. He is a gentle and kind man who is very accommodating and welcoming in every way.
After Josep and I left the Honda Montesa factory we went to see probably the largest private collection of trials motorcycles in the World. Oscar arranged this for us.
At the end of this report there will be a link to see this collection. It is truly incredible and contained very rare and immaculate motorcycles. Whilst we were there Oscar joined us. After we had seen the collection he suggested we come to his house if we wanted. Of course we agreed, we would love to go there.
Like many Spanish, Oscar lives with his extended family. They own an absolutely beautiful Vineyard near to Barcelona but deep in the countryside. Here are some photos from my trip there and a bit of background.
It is rare that you find a Trials competition manager or Trials importer who has not been involved in the Sport for years previously and reached a good level in the competitions. Oscar Giro is no exception. In the 1980's Oscar competed in the Spanish Championship and also rode many World trials as well. He won the Junior Spanish Championship in 1984 and 1985. Since then he maintained a good level of success winning many trials. He rode factory machines for Montesa and in the early 90's Aprilia.

Here you can see Toni Bou at the end of a section at the 2013 Penrith Uk Trial. Oscar is in the centre pf the photo , with Miguel Ciera to his left.
Here is Oscar at his home, outside the Vineyard office, where his sister works, dealing with the sales and administration. Oscar showed me around the production areas. I was absolutely amazed by the huge scale of it all. I was equally amazed by the huge investment that had been made. In one room there were huge 20 foot tall vertical stainless steel tanks and vats. There was another room containing huge juice extractors. There was a laboratory, a beautiful wine cellar that is everything you would imagine an old dusty wine cellar to look like.
It was high technology mixed with tradition and experience. Oscar's brother and father and other family members run this business. Oscar is busy with the trial and work.
A good photo of Oscar standing in front of the office with a selection of the family produce. I was driving so didn't sample any, but later that night I had a glass of the wine that Josep bought. The red wine was so smooth, it was very impressive and was so indicative of quality.

As well as red and white wine, the Giro family also produce Cava. They supply to the finest motorcycle museums in Spain, the Bassella collections. The wines are branded Bassella and are labelled with motorcycles.
So you can have some Montesa, Bultaco or Ossa Cava.
I cannot think of a better gift to give a motorcyclist who likes a glass every now and then. It is superb quality.
