page 6  Francisco    Paya    and    the    1987    JP    325    Trial

Its interesting to see the clutch was made by Nagesti who were the wheel makers. Being such a small production number motorcycle, the 2nd model in 1988 was made upon customer request. Customers had the option to have fitted conventional Akron rims of the Nagesti wheels which were the same as fitted to the Merlin FIUS.

Despite this option only 12 customers chose to have traditional spoked wheels. You see, they have taste and opted for the three spoked wheels. It makes sense. If you are the sort of person who steers away from the normal bike and buys a JP then you will want the crazy wheels as well.

The seat tank unit is very reminiscent of the GasGas Halley at the time. I have no doubt Fransesc was influenced by a number of bikes around at the time.

The swinging arm was steel box section and looks in style similar to the Merlin swinging arms, going as far as the shade of grey. Fransesc told me that he decided on this Nagesti wheel choice after seeing the Merlin wheels. He feels as though these wheels don't offer the feel in the sections as they don't have the flex. I've heard this said before but find it impossible to think that I would notice any difference. If any of my rear wheels started to flex, I would abandon ship and jump off. Also .... I cant remember the last time I rode and ever noticed any wheel flex. Perhaps I'm Neanderthal :)

The tyres still have the bobbles on them.

Magnesium wheel hubs. If yours ever crack, make sure you get a 95% magnesium TIG welding rod to complete the repair, otherwise the new weld will over 2 months completely oxodise and disappear into thin air like magic.
