The creation of the 1989 Jordi Tarres Beta proto replica
by Retro enthusiast sascha basler and with input by original designer Ricardo Bosi
and pilot - seven times world champion jordi tarres
Sascha has now completed this ambitious project , but it has been a lot of work.
Now over to Sascha -
Lets just spend a moment looking at the remainder of the work that was needed and then you will see the finished bike and test ride photos :).
I needed around two days to finish the back frame. The weld work looked incredible and I was really happy that it went like
clockwork. Even the copied weld seam of Jordi's cracked back frame caused by the Japan indoor crash looked absolute similar. It
got repaired extemporary and had an extra weld seam on the upper strut.

Originally there would have been no need for the vertical welds on the top struts , but they cracked on Jordi's bike - so Sascha replicated this.
Some different angles. The subframe fits like a glove.
Unfortunately the rear rim of my 88 spare bike didn´t fit. The hub and the disc was different to the 89 Stripy. So I had to use a Zero rim, because there was no way to find a suitable rim in a short space of time. The restoration of the rim was not the problem, but I was a bit upset with this solution, because up to that point the bike looked absolute similar expect for the zero rim.
Anyway, I had to accept that I couldn´t get a Stripy rim until the bike presentation and final test ride. Sascha is currently on strong medication to take his mind off this ;) |
Now I had to prepare the rear fender and the seat. These parts were taken from the TR34 as well. The later Zero fender was not available those days, and both parts didn´t fit on the Proto and had to modify.
I got a used rear fender and two new old stock head lights from my friend Jason Finn. Also his mate Bryn Matton got me a second fender. I have to say thank you again at this point for the great support.
I started to modify the fender and got a bit nervous while doing the first cut. A mistake would have made the fender useless. Even the seat didn´t fit at all and had to be cut carefully.
But at the end the parts have fitted nicely and had been ready for the paint shop.
