merlin's children's motorcycles

Merlin started making childrens motorcycles and then progressed onto making motorcycles for big boys !. The money raised from selling these children's bikes was the real bread and butter that kept these companies afloat.
Its no coincidence that when most the these small Spanish motorcycle manufacturers concentrated their efforts on the adult market they failed soon afterwards. The adult market requires constant bike modification and improvement. This costs a great deal of money and if you don't get it exactly right , no one will buy. The children's fathers are less fussy. As long as the bike is a bright colour and reliable, they know their lad or lass will be happy and as they wont have to slave over it , they will be as well.

Thank you to Josep Argerich from Spain for sending me these pictures.
Ignacio Bulto featured in his father Paco Bulto's Bultaco brochures and in some ways he passed on the tradition.
Pere Arpa's (One of the 3 Merlin founders) son Mika Arpa is featured in the photos below . Mika is Ignacio Bulto's nephew.
