Page 16- Interview with Francesc Tarres + meet Pol and Jordi's father at home.

What do you do for a living now Fransesc?

I am dealing with luxury poos and pees. I have trucks and different luxury toilet modules that are used at events. This is my business. I have 6 trailers like this. They are in Valencia. I also organise the indoor trial as well.

Did you watch the German indoor trial?

Yes, the house, yes I see. The house is beautiful but the other sections were not beautiful for me.

Has Pol leaving Jotagas affected your relationship with Jordi?

No, it was just business. We are very close brothers.

Is Pol practicing less now that he not practising on the Jotagas with Jordi?

No, Pol practise many times each week still now with Toni. I would have been good for this to continue but it was not possible.Things don’t always go as planned.

Does he think Pol is on the right track to being very successful and the top man in Trials ?

Pol has a good lot of technique and is very good. The times now are very different and it is not the same time as when Jordi was riding. Jordi was doing something new and opening something new. Now there is Toni Bou who is regarded as being exceptional and someone who is so good everywhere and a constant constant winning here and winning there and imposing his dominance on the sport. The trouble for Pol is that he has to win his class and then progress more and beat Toni Bou. He still has a long way to go. At this time there were lots of changes in the rules telling him what size of bike he could ride as well. In 2010, this was when he was World Champion on the 125. Then what happened next year is that they changed the rules and they have let him on a bigger engined bike. He then came 2nd. The last year he was the test pilot for the new Jotagas. Maybe he was not really ready to assume this type of role. It might have been too much of a strain for Pol to do the testing and also combined with the changes in the rules.

What is good now is that Pol finally has a stable environment. He has a good bike like Cabastany. There are these changes in the rules and he needs to get his feet.

What I see and feel is that Pol will go towards the top of the pile amongst riders. Maybe not the top but very close and amongst the best. I think that it is poor that there only 4 indoor trial that they can ride. Before there were 4 to choose from. It doesn’t give juniors much opportunity to try out these skills in competition and get better so that they can progress. The more rounds gave them more experience with indoor and riding this way. Also, the difference physically about Pol, it creates a need for a better stronger bike but they are not at the point where he can say that he can say give me this. Sherco oblige and help him as much as they can, but he needs more to help win. As the other older riders fall away, this will offer him an opportunity to ride at the top level. Pol needs a clutch with 8 plates. Pol weighs 87 kg. He weighs 15kg more than Raga and needs a more powerful clutch to grab quickly and pull away immediately. Because Pol is tall he has an advantage that when he pulls the bike he has more leverage. He can also spring with more weight and carry the bike further. The disadvantage of being bigger is that lateral they can go out of balance and this will pull the bike out of line easier. Pol has to be more online all of the time. Bou is like a bull, small and powerful.
