Who did you practise with, was it just Fred or was there someone else ?
Yes, there was my brother and other friend he was not a very very good rider and he can be with me when I am practising. The rider I practise the most are Berlatier, because Berlatier was not so far away from my house and it was also later Gilles Jamel. He was a rider from Nice, not a great rider. Me, I spend a lot of time alone, yes alone. I spend a long long long time to practise alone with no minder, nobody. I was thinking about the section and thinking what I was doing, good or bad and I spend a long long time practising alone.
At this time in 83 did SWM give you a van or did SWM give you your own van to go to the trial ?
Uuuuhhhh, I think ….in fact it was both. I had a van for the time away competitions, to go practising to go on the hills not so far away from my house but when we arrive on the events it was the SWM van you know. Depending on the situation my bike was in the van of SWM because they need to prepare the bike in the factory. Sometime I keep it with me.

Yes ..... using the power of OCD :) , I have tracked down a photo of Luciano Mangano starring on the front cover of Trial Journal whilst he was working for Garelli with his rider Donato Miglio.
In 1983 would SWM send a mechanic to the trial for you ? Yes yes, two or three I think Can you remember their names ? Oh ha ha ha Mario Sirelli was the name of the person I find again in Fantic a few years later. Mario was a mechanic and he repaired the bikes and he tried many things and was development. Luciano Mangano the other one, was a good mechanic but was just a mechanic. |
In 1983 you ride the Scottish Six Days Trial with Daniello Galliecho, what do you remember of that year ?
I remember that I finish the Scottish Six Days and in 83 I finished, if I remember in 2nd place behind Antonio Gorgot.

A great selection of Retro photos from the 1983 Japanese Scottish book.
It was a Spanish who won the Scottish in 83 and I finished 2nd if my mind is good. I beat Eddy Lejeune, Schrieber and all the others. On the Jumbo I finished 2nd just a few points behind Antonio Gorgot. In 82 Bernie Schrieber won the Scottish. In 83 I finish 2nd and after I won in 84, 5 and 6. In 82 they just had me.
It was Tony Gorgot's win in 1983
Thierry was 2nd
Eddy Lejeune took 3rd

Also, if I come from the South of France, I had very good and fine throttle control for the Scottish Six Days and I have always been riding very careful, precise and very smooth. It was very good for the Scottish Six Days. When I ride for the first time I finished best new comer and when Bernie Schrieber ride it was my first time in the Scottish and I think I was in 4th position on Friday night and I finished 10 I think. It was a very good result for a newcomer.
A great selection of Retro photos from the Trial Journal team.
And in 83 for my 2nd time I nearly won the Scottish but I finish 2nd behind the Spanish rider and it was quite a good result for me of course. I had very good experiences in Scotland.
