Here is a great view of the exhaust. There arnt many trials bikes that incorporate an expansion chamber as large and shapely as this. You can just imagine how this thing buzzes when on pipe , and off course the expansion close to the front of the cylinder increases bottom end dramatically.
Mecatecno Skywalker wheels with AJOP front caliper.
The linkage is like nothing seen on a Mecatecno before . The tucked away rear brake pedal looks just the business.
Once the decal emblazoned cover is removed , it reveals the fibreglass petrol tank

Above the petrol cap is the coolant reservoir .
I love this Mecatecno . I love it a lot.
It looks nicely proportioned with great modern lines. I imagine the engine worked brilliantly and the exhaust made it sing. The steering angle also looks perfect .Low pegs and high bars promise a very stable modern ride.
Above all its a Mecatecno, so it gets my vote. Mecatecno embodies Catalan Trial passion. They were a small company who dared to be different and who engineered and over engineered their bikes to a very high standard. I have no doubt that if produced at the right price this watercooled model would have sold well.
Sadly the prototype wasnt developed further and didnt make it into production . This was well and truly Mecatecno's last motorcycle.
Both Jordi Rabassa and Joan Ruiz Cite the same following reason for Mecatecno's demise
The problem of Mecatecno was ....... Derbi.
Mecatecno hadnt got the National and Worldwide dealership network they needed. Mecatecno's Spanish dealers couldnt afford to give them exclusivity , so they were Derbi dealers as well. Initially everything was good because Derbi didnt produce fashionable childrens motorcycles and trials bikes .Later when Mecatecno produced the CR7 80 cc GP style road bike, Derbi jumped on the band wagon and produced their own GPR model. The CR7 had piston ring problems providing great expense for the small company. Also the dealers under pressure and regular sales contact from Derbi chose to sell Derbi and not Mecatecno.

For a short while afterwards Jordi Rabassa produced childrens motorcycles , with engine from the far east , but this was too little too late. The heady days of steady production and a workforce were over and there wasn't the cash flow to recreate it .
It all became a downward spiral and it was impossible to continue the fight against all odds.
But ...as they say "It is better to have loved and lost , than never loved at all"."Nothing lasts forever".
