I located his road of good sized detached wooden houses and drove up slowly so that I would find his place. Each house had a long 100ft garden in front and Ulfs house was no exception. As well as the house number which identified it, was a montesa poster on the back wall, inside of the garage.

We parked up and walked down the gravel driveway climbing the five or six steps up to the front door of this wooden house.
The door opened and there was Ewa and Ulf Karlson.

Meet Ulf and his wife Ewa. Its good to meet you both. I am always aware that I want to meet these trials stars more than perhaps they want to meet me, but I am pleased to say the welcome they gave me was very warm and we were invited in and had coffee and biscuits.

Above the left hand door, mounted in a white wooden picture frame is a gold medal awarded to Ulf Karlson for winning the 1980 World trials championship. It was given to him by Montesa founder Pere Permanyer in addition to his Senior managers in celebration of Ulf's 1980 World Championship win.
