We then walk through the huge garage and tucked away in the corner is an immaculate workshop area with a Jotagas frame on the bench. This room is near his office and its clear that this is where the design was created and perfected.
Seeing a man who was very capable in the workshop and who has also countless spares spanning the years I wondered if Jordi played much of a part in maintaining his GasGas’s over the years. Jordi explained to me that after each event the mechanics would work on his bike and replace all of the broken or worn parts themselves. I would imagine that Jordi would have been practising on the bike the day before the trial, the mechanics would have to work into the night getting it ready for the competition. Jordi only rode one bike only during the season.
The visit and interview was over. It was time for us both to leave for Andorra where the World Trial was about to take place. It was about 7pm and there was a 2 and a half hour drive in front of us, and Jordi had to pack and organise his children as well.
We shook hands, I thanked him for his time and we bid farewell.
They say “Never meet your idols”. Well, I did and Jordi lived up to my high expectations. My over riding impressions of Jordi was that he was a welcoming, generous, trusting, responsible and friendly man. He’s a fun guy who likes to laugh. He’s very proud of his past and rightfully so. He’s worked so hard for everything he’s achieved. He conquered the Trials World for many years. He is now determined to, and I wouldn’t bet against him doing the same with Jotagas.
