An exclusive interview with Montesa's Jordi Permanyer
You must shatter my illusion please, my illusion is that the son of the founder and owner of Montesa does not have to maintain and prepare his own bike, he has a whole factory full of workers who will do this for him. You don't wash your bike, he doesn't oil his chain ?

No no no ha ha ha this is very wrong. I had to do everything to my motorcycle. I remember that in my father's house we had a garage and I remember very well after each trial washing the bike and polishing the bike. If there were some complicated problem, then I will take it to the factory for assistance.

When you look back now, what is your favourite part of the factory ?

For me there is no doubt, my favourite place was the racing department because in this place I could go there and talk to the riders and talk to them about their position and my position in the last trial I ride and the last race or trials they ride.

We could make plans to ride the following weekend, the environment was very friendly and I'm very enthusiastic at this time.

I have been told that many designers within the same department in Montesa were competing against each other. I'm told that the different designers in this department would each make a prototype for the new trial model for the next trial model and they would all be hoping to get the decision that there bike was the bike that would make it into production. This does seem a little strange that are a lot of man hours would be wasted on bikes that wouldn't go anywhere when all of their ideas could be incorporated into one prototype. Do you remember this or not ?

I don't remember this exactly. I remember there was some problems when Montesa decided to leave the road racing and dedicate themselves to the Motorcycles for the mountain, the team that was working on the road race motorcycles was obviously not happy.
