a revealing Interview with Mecatecno and Montesa Rider
Ronald Garcia

At the time of the first trial in Belgium it is clear that the Federation have made no preparations for anything to do with the trial, there is no van and no transport to the trial. There is no way to make the trip to Belgium. Then after we make the Federation aware that they need transport to take riders to the trial, they contact us 2 days later and say that they have now bought a vehicle and this will transporter us to the trial. We go and see this and are amazed to see that this is an old Land Rover which I think was used in the second world war ha ha ha wow.  We could not believe this. This Land Rover was so bad and old it would be impossible 4 us to make this long trip in this slow ancient vehicle. We needed this vehicle to take us to Belgium, England and Ireland.
Ignacio Vernada was a representative for the Spanish Motorcycle Federation and travelled extensively with the Spanish Federation Trials teams. He is seen here with Andreu Codina, Joan Freixas and Gabino Renales.

At this time I think it was the same as it is now, we would travel to Belgium and then train with Lejeune. We would stay in this area and not return to Spain. We will go straight to England and then Ireland. At this time it was too late to buy another vehicle and there was no money in any case, so the riders on the bikes were all crammed on to the small vehicle and start the long long cold trip to Belgium. On the way we would stop at restaurant for food, on the motorway we would stop and have a drink ############################################################################################ not printable####################################################################
Ronald's horse looks as startled as I do !.

The National Team was Gallach, Codina, Freixas, me and Renales, I think. Albert Juvanty traveled with us in Spain only and was the manager for Gallach.  After a little time the factories go to the Federation and they say where is our money you are saying that you will pay for the top 5 riders but you give has nothing. They so no problem no problem. I can never understand how badly prepared the Federation was. I rode better when I was riding direct for the factories. After this time all of the riders was very unhappy with the Federation because we ride very hard and very well.
Andreu Codina, Ronald Garcia and Oscar Giro set off on the 3 days.

The Federation have a great idea but have no organisational money behind it. We much prefer to ride with our own factories. When I return to Spain after Ireland, I told the Federation and the factories it  was impossible to continue traveling with this arrangement. I told them to buy a good van and I say to make a text nova, it's much better to ride with the van with the National Team made by the Federation, but Mecatecno say no no it's better if you ride with Federation hahahaha because save the money.  Ha ha ha. At several weekends, when we are traveling for the competitions we are traveling with Ignacio, the big boss of the Federation. Manuel Soler was the manager and he would come and see the riders and make sure we are all happy and everything is good, hotel, as we are going to win the next day haha and it was good to have him around.
