2013 Marc Colomer Interview WWW.RETROTRIALS.COM
Did you make the decision to leave the industry?

Yes.

Are you happy to be out of the industry?

Yes.

Is there any reason why this makes you happy?

At this moment I think the trial is very different to that of my time 94, 95, 96, the trial was very popular in Spain and many people were interested. At this moment I don’t know why but it’s not this and for me, it’s difficult to work now in the trial and look at the World of the Trial at the moment and it’s completely worse than 10 / 15 years ago. If you look at Moto GP for sure it’s better than 10/ 15 years ago, Formula 1, all of the things. In trial it’s completely worse. It’s my opinion and the opinion of many people. Before the trial was on the television and had many sponsors and now it’s nothing. For me it’s difficult to be there now and think why is it worse than 10 years ago pheeeewwww. It’s for this reason.

What do you think of no stop?

For my riding I like. For the World Championship I think, I don’t know now, because I don’t see no races this year live but I think for the big level this will always be a big problem for the observers because this happen when it was no stop 10 years ago and I think now is the same. For the big level it will always be a problem for the observers because it is impossible to know if he stop or no stop, the bike. For the style I prefer, I prefer no stop.

Are you still in touch with any riders that you used to ride with on the world circuit?

No,no.

Did you enjoy your time on the road when you were travelling to the trials?

Travelling was not a problem.

Are you married with children?

Yes, two.

Other than winning the Championship in 96, what was you greatest achievement?

Difficult question ha ha  errggghhh. It’s difficult toooo.

Did you ever get worried at trials about your results a great deal?

The only thing that I worries me is that I was ready to win before, but now I can say this. The rest , no because I win the World Championship and win many Indoors, the Spanish Championship, all the things I can win, I win, but when you win one time for sure I think after the next thing I can win more times. Also I know many riders who finish with possibility’s to win one Championship and at the end they don’t win and maybe in this case it was more difficult but for me now the only thing that I’m not happy about is not winning in 95.

You were the best rider in the World in 1996, what was it that made you the best rider in the World at this time?

It’s many things, the bike, the team, its many things. Also at the end of 95, I say for sure now I’m ready to make this and win. I get my head ready. At the beginning of 96 my head thought there was an 80% possibility to win and 20% no. I was in the same condition as 95 but inside my head no ha ha.

Do you ever watch the videos on Toni Bou?

Yes.

What do you think of his riding?

Oh it’s incredible. It’s difficult to say if he will be the best rider ever in the world but also Jordi, when he win the first World Championship there was an incredible between him and the other riders like maybe Toni now. But for sure now when you look it’s for sure it’s incredible.
