A look down the left hand lane of the collection, with Mika's bike directly in front.
This is Rob Herrings 1992 British championship bike. It is a factory bike with magnesium casings and titanium bolts and a full HRC kit. It has a special piston, cylinder, gearbox, carburettor, everything.
It has never been fired up since the last race. I paid Robbie's mechanic to strip the engine and to coat the inside with a special grease because magnesium tends to corrode from the Inside out. If you wanted to ride this you would have to strip the engine again to remove the grease. It still has the scratch marks on it from the crash in the last British championship round.
I was a great Robbie Herring fan. It's almost a mystery to me that he didn't make it and become World Champion he was plenty fast enough. He was so fast and so skillful. I think ultimately his downfall is that he wasn't quite fit enough. He was fit but not quite fit enough to get to the very top. You see, he started to crash when they were just a couple of laps to go. I used to sponsor Robbie through Apico. I also have in another place the very last factory 2 stroke RM Suzuki that was ever produced. This was given to Jem Whatley.
I finished the Chispa just a couple of weeks ago. I am just missing the tank sticker and the Chispa sticker and then it will be complete. Ah yes, also I'm waiting for one bolt. It is nothing like a normal bolt so I must buy this.
It has got original tyres and these are extremely difficult to find ....well they are practically non-existent. This Chispa is fitted with the Ducati moped engine and Bultaco just had their own engine cases for this engine. Bultaco did not have their own 50cc engine.
