Now that’s interesting you have the same Adam Raga poster as me. Mine came from the Old GasGas factory in Fornells. Both yours and my posters have been graffited giving Adam amongst other things a moustache. Ha ha . I wonder what they were trying to tell him .
This is the machine which cuts the bore through the nicasil and gives it a diamond finish. It makes a perfect circle and the correct roughness for the piston. The quantity and thickness of nicosil is 0.15mm and we cut out 0.07mm of nicosil to achieve this smooth finish . This is the finished product. This is now perfect. This machines does everything. The first pass creates the circumference and the 2nd pass the roughness that is required to bed the piston. It goes in one machine pass and then the other. We have to control the size as we have only 10 microns tolerance. We have the apparatus here to check the correct size.
Can you change the machines to make adjustments ?
Yes. This is a very expensive drilling machine. This is big pressure with a hydraulic system inside and this machine can adjust the bore by the minutest amount. The diamonds push out to adjust . Just this machine is half a million euro. It is very old and solid.
How long does it take to do the first drill and the the 2nd?.
Not many times. Just 180 seconds. Each time the machine is controlled by a highly trained operator . We would not place a beginner on this machine at all. The operator we have has been working with us for many years and he comes from learning from an old Italian man and doing similar work before coming here.

This is not very complicated but it is not a very stable process. You must understand the cylinder types and adapt the seating of the tool every time. It is not just automatic and using the one button.
You make OEM for others. Not just trial but for other markets ?
We make cylinders for all Italian production . We also make the cylinders for some special luxury cars ,because they are made with single cylinders. The only restriction for us is that the cylinder must be single cylinder . we don’t make cylinder blocks.

These cylinders have been blackened by nicosil coating .

These cylinders have been chemically cleaned.

Yes . After the chemical cleaning cleans this and takes the finish cylinder back to the natural colour of the aluminium. There is no paint.
So all these boys in their sheds restoring bikes by silver spraying their cylinder barrels need only clean it properly.
Yes, blasting is also another correct process. We make also for Vespa. Here is some work we do for them . This is the upgrade kit that customers can purchase for the 160cc model which takes it to 200cc.

Yes, but they stop maybe 6 or 7 years ago. We do not test the products here. We have a friend with a small dyno and he test the products for us.
In the back room here we have an industrial cleaning process for the water. The water contains pollutants from the process so it must be cleaned before it can be returned to the water system of the area. This system filters water and produces water that is good.
Where abouts do you do the cleaning of the cylinder to take it back to the colour of aluminium ?
