page 4 ossa factory tour 2012
Well this surprised me. In the middle of the factory was this 30 foot tall static lift shaft type thing with an opening at the bottom. It was explained that small parts were placed into blue trays at the bottom and then placed on the bottom shelf of this store. The computer registered the location and you typed in what the part was. The machine then pulled the shelf in and stored it away tightly.
If you ever needed that part, you’d tap away on the screen and the computer would find the part and lower the shelf to you. It’s an amazing bit of kit. It’s really impressive that Ossa have all this and it only goes to show the massive investment that Ossa have made in the factory.

After we had finished the tour I was offered goes on either the trial or the Explorer. I already love and know and love the trials bike so chose the Explorer to ride. Here are my impressions.
This bike is designed for people who want a cross over between the trial and the trail. The Explorer offers a better seat for road and trail work, firmer suspension and taller top gear. Whilst the bike feels taller than the 280I, this is only the case around the saddle. The bike feels light and narrow and very manoeuvrable. The bike started first kick from cold and as its fuel injected it ran great from cold. Immediately standing up on the pegs, it felt good and easy to balance. The clutch was great with no drag and good bite. My head got a bit confused. I knew I was on a trials bike but as my bum was higher my brain was also telling me I was on an Enduro bike. The front mudguard was really low like to 280I. Once I had thrown my preconceptions out of the window I really started to enjoy the bike. To be fair I didn’t ride the bike in sections and only of the flat. I did take it out for a spell of the road and it felt like it was pulling 50 in top easy, on average revs , nothing much. . I love two stroke engines and for me they offer bags more performance and ease of use.
I liked the bike and could see this easily and properly doing the job of two bikes. T really isn’t compromised in either way so much.
I’m sure I wouldn’t drop any more dabs on this Explorer than a 280I Trial.
I do know that I would be a dalm sight faster on this Explorer around a trail / Enduro than my YZ 250 though. When the going gets hard , this bike will shine
Real food for thought.
