page 3 Sascha Basler's 1987 Beta TR34 Trial restoration
The Nice original silencer
Sascha drilled the rivets out and pulled out the old packing in the exhaust , which was old, crusty and no in very bad condition. It is replaced with fresh wadding.
Here are two photos of the Beta tank and seat unit. They look in OK condition. At least the tank doesnt have any splits or petrol leaks. The exisiting decals give lots of information to make new ones.
The tank as always painted but the seat unit was not. The rubber of the seat unit looks good , but how will Sascha restore the seat plastic to make it look like new again.? It is always difficult and time consuming to restore plastic back to new.

These bolts in the engine do not look standard
The clutch side casing is now off , giving good access to the crank weight , clutch and kick start mechanism.
The clutch centre hub and basket are now out.
This is what it look like with these two items removed. The crank nut on the left can often be difficult to undo without an air impact gun. The gear mechanism all looks in great shape.
Over to the other side of the engine . The inside of magneto casings always corrode like this. Its condensation developing and also water coming in through the wire access and not able to escape.
The engine is now split. Although the whole bike looked bad, the engine looks good.
It was possible to use the original piston , ring and crank as they were in good condition. The gears also showed no signs of problems.
Time to inspect all of the bearings and seals and perhaps replace . Definitely replace the roller bearings and seals.
